You can volunteer for the event in the capacity of a runner or work an aid station, etc. There is a pacer pool during the event that starts at Forresthill and ends at the finish, total mileage is about 40. You can run all or a section with an entrant. It's a good way to familiarize yourself with the event and the trail and you will get to know people that can have influence, yes it does make a difference. I didn't get in the first time but did two consecutive times after spending time with Race directors etc. I have lots of information that you might find helpful, training programs, course management docs, etc. Keep the Pace.
